Just curious here.....
Is an IMI Uzi the only "real" Uzi?

So if you are looking at a Vector, Century, or some other build, they would technically be called an Uzi "clone" correct?

Or is it because the parts kits used to build these are from IMI guns, that they wouldn't be called "clones"?

Just want to start learning more info about Uzi's.

IMI is the "original" UZI. "Clone" is usually used to indentify copies of an original gun, so Norinco, Group Industries, Vector and Century would qualify as clones. I don't think it matters what their parts composition is, they are clones. FN would be a harder call. It's not original, but it was built under license from IMI to their exact specs. Personally I wouldn't call it a clone. I'd call it was it is - a licensed copy.

As far as what is "real", that's a little bit in the eye of the beholder. I think it's a confusing phrase and I try not to use it.

I think Pre versus Post is a more important differentation, an IMI will be Pre (if not a build), so no 922 worries

The word "real" is pretty subjective in this case. As already stated, the IMI is the original, but FN was also licensed to build them and may have produced more than IMI did. The key word to me is licensed.

I personally would apply the adjective "real" to any Uzi that works like it should. In other words Centurys would be suspect. The Norinco I owned many years ago seemed to be real and the Vector I currently own seems to be real. Also I would say it cannot have a thumb butthole stock to be a real Uzi :) So Norincos would require a 922r makeover to be classified as real by my rules, which I just came up with on the fly by the way.

:) i would say any that are select fire are "Real" Uzi's, mine is semi auto only Vector so i consider it only a 1/2 an Uzi :(

And IIRC, FA Vectors are made from many officially licensed parts so they may be a sort-of-clone.
