I realize that this is an UZI forum, and so there will likely be some UZI bias. However, for those of you who have shot both, which do you prefer and why?

I have shot extensively with both the MP5 and the UZI. Personal UZI and employers MP5. Both selective fire. I may catch a little crap but I prefer the UZI over the MP5. I like the fact that the UZI is far more user friendly when and IF something breaks. Try that with MP5. Parts are more plentiful for the UZI and ALOT cheaper. I have fired well over 100,000 rds through MP5's and I do like the way the gun shoots but I would not trade my UZI for a MP5. I have close to 20,000 rds through the UZI never problem or a jam. The UZI suppressor lets you use 147gr ammo whereas the MP5SD is reccommended to use standard 115 or 124gr ammo. The barrel on the SD is ported to bleed off the velocity. The UZI is not ported and you can use the heavier subsonic rounds with the suppressor. I do not use MP5 anymore at work, I was issued HK G36E 4 years ago, but thats another story.
I hope I was not too long winded, but that is my experiences with both of the superb firearms.

The UZI is a far more rugged weapon than the MP5.The MP5 shoots a bit smoother for a newby,but with a little practice the UZI will perform quite well.JMHO.

I'll take the UZI ,the Mp5 always felt like a toy to me.

Not to mention prices on replacement parts/reliable mags.

uzi = combat firearm
mp5 = s.w.a.t team gun or tactical

now ask yourself which one get's used harder, treated worse, and why.

From my experience, both have fine, controllable shooting - MP5 faster ROF but smoother, Uzi rougher but lower ROF. I have an Uzi and would get an MP5 if I could afford it even though I have seen the MP5 referred to as a "girlie man" gun.

MHO, YMMV, etc.

Ne-waza are you playing two boards against the other ?

Uhhh... Yes.

Having never shot either gun, I am curious to hear what those in the know have to say about the systems. Even if it's a bit biased. :love

I'm also trying to talk myself into an Uzi. :thumbs_up

I have shot both. I have kept an MP5 for several years now and really love it. If I could only have one I would probably keep the MP5. Having shot both I am biased towards the MP5. As a dealer I HIGHLY recommend buying both:)
Wow--I just realized I have a couple of Uzis inbound too. Imagine that!

Timeless wisdom that transcends all topics.

As a single purpose subgun the MP5 has no peer, IMO. It is one smooth ride.

But it's pricey (for those of us who need F4s to possess), and doesn't lend itself to caliber changes. I could care less about .45, but the .22 kit is more fun for less money than anything else I own. Want faster, just add a Blackjack recoil buffer to the Uzi.

Uzi parts and mags are (again for the NFA crowd) a heckuva lot less expensive.

I suppose I'll get flamed for this, but reliability is a toss-up.

Being a proud owner of a factory uzi and factory MP5 I can honesty say, the MP5 stays in my safe 95% of the time.....

Yes, its a very smooth weapon but I am still partial to the uzi mostly because of my child hood fascination with them.

One thing I will say. Cleaning the MP5 is a royal pain compared to the uzi. That is one big reason I ever bring it out.
