i'm hoping some of you guys have played around with this and have some info. what are my non-factory mag options for an M76 valmet?

so far i've heard that the following works:

- bulgy .223 AK mags with a little work
- weiger mags with a little work

what else?

what about .223 galil mags? M85/M95 mags seem like good candidates, but i just don't know...

Be careful with the Galil mag option, the cartridge feeds lower than Valmet so some might get the bullet pushed in before chambered resulting in higher pressure. One way to check is to remove the top cover and watch how each cartridge is feeding (manual cycling), best if you can get some dummy rounds to do this.

The best option is to modify the Bulgarian .223 mags, simple and reliable.

I couldn't get the Weiger mag to work...low feeding problem similar to the Galil mags, but YMMV.

There's been plenty of folks who have used Galil mags without issue, but what bravo5two states has validity. Bulgarians are the best candidate for mods as they're available and quite reasonable for the quality. I've played with Weiger's but never did complete one.

I have used both Galil and Valmet mags interchangably in my Galil AR and M76 TF since the 1980's with no problem whatsoever. IF there was a problem I'd polish my feedramp with a dremel and/or adjust the height of the ramp, which is easy.

i've done a bit more research and it appears that the M85/95 mags are the way to go if you have some time to spend on them.

i'll just set up a machine to mill them where appropriate and knock a bunch out all at once.

Can you take pictures of your milling process and post? I would like to see how you do it. Thanks Lou

Let me throw this out; would the U/A mag adaptor for a Galil work in the Valmet 76? The adaptor allows AR magus to be used in the 5.56 Galil

Lots of drama down this road. Hundreds have tried;to date, none successful that I have ever heard of.
