What do you think the value of regular (semi-auto) uzis will be after the ban expires in september 2004. We have all heard this past week that the republican congress will not introduce legislation to extend the ban - so the ban will sunset. Will Uzi import new uzis into the U.S. after the ban? If so, what will it do to the value of our existing Uzis? Anybody with any thoughts on this?????

Thanks

Importing IMI Uzi's will still be impossible, due to the '89 sporting-use ban. Nothing will prevent a domestic company like Vector from making a semi-auto Uzi with all the evil features though. I would expect prices on IMI's would still stay a bit higher, just because of the name.

IMI cannot import new UZI's after the AW ban sunsets. The import of "non-sporting" semi-auto firearms is covered under another law. Vector however can produce Uzi's here in the US (they already are in post-ban versions) as well as other companies. They can just make enough US parts and then a parts kit. I would think that real IMI UZI's would keep most of their value, but they might drop a little just because you could get a brand new Vector.

If the AWB sunsets, it shouldn't have any significant affect on IMI Semi Uzi prices because it will not permit imports. The ban on imports happened before the AWB.

However, it would allow Vector to produce new "pre ban" guns, with would be great.

Everybody make sure you are bombarding congress and the White House with letters concerning the AWB sunset. It will not die of natural causes without grass roots support. There is already talk of Feinstein attaching it to some bill the Republicans want bad, like the tax cut, for which she will then call for a compromise which includes passage of her stupid law.

The same as the others mentioned. Foreign guns that have been banned due to import regulations will hold their value. The Vector & Group Industries Uzis would lose some value though. The biggest ones to be hit will be the "pre-ban" AR's. I'd expect them to go from $2000 to $600-700 overnight.

89 import ban

Was that an executive order or a law? Not that Bush Jr would get rid of it, but maybe a future Republican would....

Naw - probably never happen, the NY liberal media would have a collective apoplectic seizure.

Re-interpretation of the law by the ATF. The belief it was actually an executive order I don't believe to be correct. If that were the case it could be repealed. In reality it is a protectionist measure to help domestic gun companies so I wouldn't expect it to ever be repealed. I should have mentioned above that FA stuff will continue to go up due to the '86 ban, even if it was domestically made. (Group Industries, Vector)

Executive decision by Bush41, directing the ATF to review said weapons, and ban them based on their being "Non-Sporting" as defined by the 1968 Gun Control Act. Highly unlikely Bush43 will take any action to overturn a decision his father made. However, it does not need an act of Congress, and can be changed with the stroke of a pen.

Note some versions of the banned weapons have been redesigned, such as some AK models, and are now importable, as they are considered sporting rifles. The of course have been changed so much, they do not even accept AK Magazines.
