Forgive my ignorance, but Google has nothing helpful regarding a full auto sten in regards to this question. My question is, since the mag well can rotate for storage, is all you would have to do to make it fire in the vertical position is modify the bolt? Or am I missing something? I see there are people cutting bolts in half and re-welding them 90 degrees of-set for semi auto vertical mag builds.... I do not own one to look at, just curious.

It is probably not legal to make a transferable Sten into a vertical feed as you would have to modify the receiver and ATF would probably not allow that since they do not allow you to modify the cocking handle slot to build a Sterling on a Sten tube.

Oh. Didn't know you had modify tube

For what it's worth, people do sten magwell reciever modifications on macs.

Maybe atf just doesn't want you constructing a different type of firearm, but modifications are ok?

That's not really a valid comparison. Perhaps you're missing the fact that rotating the mag well on a MK2 STEN aligns it with the hole in the receiver. In order to do a STEN vertical conversion, you would have to cut a big hole on the bottom of the receiver tube, and presumably weld up the former mag hole in the side.

For the MAC conversion, you remove the grip, and replace it with another in the same spot.

Even if the BATFE would approve it, why would you convert a perfectly good Sten when you can buy Gerät Neumünster (MP 3008) for less?

No reason why. Just curious.

And where do you see an mp3008 for sale less than a sten?

Didn't the Germans make a Sten knock off with a vertical magazine?

That's the mp3008

That's what the sten looks like with vertical mag.

Transferable mp3008 mgs go for around 20k. Best I can figure.

If you modified or could modify a transferrable sten, that's more or less what you'd get

20K!!!! Oh man!! I missed a fantastic deal.

Do people really pay that much or is that just someone’s asking price? I don’t believe it was ever adopted by the Wehrmacht. But people pay $5 for a cup of coffee these days, so I guess 20k for a last-ditch insignificant SMG is quite possible.

I could see a Błyskawica SMG maybe fetching 20k.

Nothing in the BATF prohibits this (where do you come up with that?)

It is not a possibility though with creating your own custom bolt plus massive reworking.

Buy the German version as a "cheaper" alternative to a sten :pound

lotta misinformation here

It would be illegal for the same reason ATF does not allow you to convert a registered Sten tube into a Sterling tube.
