I saw online that Ruger is no longer servicing the AC556. Is this true? I don't have one,(saving for 1st FA) but it's high on list. Repair Service is EXTREMELY high on the deciding factor category. IF it's true that Ruger doesn't, are there other reliable firms that offer this service?

As far as I know, that is correct, they no longer service it.

They serviced mine a few years back. But, they have since run out of repair parts. This is no different than Colt who does not service the civie owned M16s.

If you find a nice AC556 at a good price jump on it. If you want to hold onto it forever, get a parts kit from a cut up Post Sample gun. You will then have all the replacement parts you will ever need.

In my opinion, an AC556 is one of the best buy MGs out there.

Buy with comfort and trust a good gunsmith to service your rifle.
Good luck finding any OEM that is still in business and services a 29+ year old transferable NFA full auto firearm.
Yep, what he ^^^ said. Let's see; S&W won't service a Model 76. And Colt won't service a Model 21 Tommy, M16, or Ma Duce. That sure doesn't seem to have effected their prices, does it?

There are lots of 'smiths who specialize in Uzis,Macs,M16s. I'm just unsure as to # of good ones for the AC.
Thanks to all

David Spiwak Parts Kit

I have 2 AC556's. To ensure I have parts I bot a parts kit from David Spiwak www.davidspiwak.com I think he still has a few.
Also, you probably know that most AC parts are interchangeable with
Mini 14 parts.
I am a huge AC556 fan. They are trouble free and a blast to shoot. Also, for the price they are the best deal in town for NFA machine guns.

Been considering one. I had a NICE Mini 14 (traded it to my Father) ,& it's based on the M14,which I LOVE!
Do any of you know if the Mini 14 Bullpup stock from Brownells will fit the AC566? I kept mine when I traded my Mini!

I'm pretty sure you could modify it. My AC556 sits in a Butler Creek stock. I used a dremal to make room for the additional fire control parts. Works like a charm.

And to the OP, most early mini-14 parts can be used, (bolts, barrels, etc). The only parts that are not found on a mini-14 are the fire control parts. I too own a demilled AC556 parts kit. Haven't needed it yet, but its no different than my Savage ANM2 beltfed. They haven't made parts for that gun since 1943. So I bought a demilled ANM2 with out a right side plate. With that and finding other parts, I can rebuild that gun 2 or 3 times. So its really not a problem.

They service it.

They no longer provide replacement receivers if you need a new one. They are now out of pre-86 receivers.

Or did I TOTALLY misunderstand the statement somehow? I mean, the receivers are STEEL! Why, other than a SERIOUS design flaw or EXTREMELY poor quality materials, would it EVER need to be replaced?

When I lose my NFA Cherry, I want it to be with the right one! I want to spend my limited $ on something that will last&that I can enjoy, not something that I'm gonna be worrying about.

The transferable receivers or complete guns that Ruger held back for warranty replacements were probably the best thing ever done for the community by a manufacturer. The AC-556 series was the only transferable machinegun with a warranty and factory service support. You can't be mad at a company or a design if the receiver is damaged by an out of battery round or anything else. Ruger finally ran out of factory replacements a few years ago, so what, there are no other replacements for any other machinegun anywhere and never have been. If you want spare parts I have several parts kits to sell, alot cheaper than the ones listed above too.

I was lucky.... about 2 1/2 years ago I sent my AC-556F in for a checkup. They ended up replacing all fire control parts, buffing it up and making it look all pretty etc. Here is the best part.... they sent it back to me for no charge. I couldn't believe it. It was running good but I wanted them to take a look at it as its an 81 era gun. Came back like new with no charge. 5 months later they ran out of replacement (AC parts) parts. I was lucky. I can't say enough good about Ruger. After owning an M16 RR, Uzi RR, MAC 10 .45 and a Reising SMG along with the Ruger.... I must say the Ruger is my favorite. Absolutely great firing gun (when feeding it real Ruger mags) and its style is second to none.....
