hey guys, got some cash to burn, wanting to build something pistol caliber since im heavy on the rifle. ive been eyeing/wanting the vz61 skorpion in the sbr form for a while but just a quick glance on gunbroker is showing 500-700 for just the gun itself. from those who own one or have shot one is it worth owning or just an overpriced safe toy ?

I've had one for a couple years now, not in Sbr form though. It is a fun gun and cool to show off, but to me its not worth $500+, although it is nicely made. Mine has been totally reliable with all different types of ammo. Ammo is kinda expensive to just blow rounds down range too.
If you do get one, check out WWW.czechpoint.com for all spare parts and mags.

If you can get a deal on one, go for it.

I have been thinking about one too. I would want to make it a post sample. Anyone have any information on converting the semi autos to select fire.

I was thinking about getting one to SBR. This guy's video changed my mind. He brought up some interesting points.

I still think it would be a fun project. It would probably be no problem for a gunsmith.

All true, heavy, under powered, clunky, large, but well made and cool looking. At $4-500 a bargain. I paid much more for an RT Mfg. when they first came out. I just had to have one.

Far from practical, but I think it's cool and that's all the reason I've ever needed to spend money. What is the best source for these now? I know that In Range used to sell the SBRs using CzechPoint guns. I wish you could buy guns/receivers with the dovetail in the back like the originals.

Ou tof curiousity, how is the barrel installed?

I know Czechpoint was looking at doing a 380 auto and possibly a 9mm mak version a year or two ago, I'll have to ask them if there is any further progress on that...

After a little google search, it appears that it is a press-fit and pinned barrel.

I have an RT Mfg based Vz61 that has been SBR'd -- because if there are any transferrable Skorpions out there, they are unobtanium and outside of what I want to spend. I expect any pre postie-era Vz61s are dealer samples.

IMO, you buy one of these because you want a Vz61, not for any other reason. They are a collection/plinking piece. I could say "fun to shoot", but what isn't? Other than that, it's a gee-whiz-isn't-that-different toy.

FWIW, I've only ever observed two pre-samples. Both were at SAR (West, then the only SAR) 2002.

Don't know if any transferrables exist.

What is the story on the stock adapter? I have the pistol, which I enjoy, and a stock assembly, but as far as I know the adapter only comes from Waffen Werks and I can't get them to answer my e-mails or phone calls.

I got a stock adapter from Waffenwerks a month or so ago. You've really got to stay on them (like every day) to get a response via email. I left a bunch of messages but never got a call back only responses via email.

i too was wondering if sbr is worth it. took my d-technik scorpion to a 2 day conceal carry class, i know:roflmao, it sure got allot of attention. but with the recoil being so light and the stock looking like a flimsy piece of wire i wasent sure if it really made a difference. shooting it like any other pistol (and there was just about every brand / type under the sun there) was easy enough without the stock.

I had a semi auto. I did not have much money in it. I thought it looked cool but that was about it. I did not find it to be a good shooter. Yes it functioned ok but the ammo is not cheap and mine was picky on the ammo. It does not hold well like a pistol. Not much power for the size... I decided to sell it as I did not want it as a pistol and the SBR was just to much of a pain for what you get when you are done IMHO. I would love to shoot a FA but I find these pistol Cal SBRs of MGs kind of boring. I would suggest saving the money and get yourself a FA Mac10 or M11. Yeah it will cost 4 times as much but its 100 times the fun!

In an MG form they are easy to shoot and a fun gun to play with. But a semi just doesnt do it for me, expensive ammo with little down range return. Unless the "cool" factory is high with you it falls into the range toy class with the Tec9s and Calicos of the world.

I snagged one from CDNN, shot it twice, and it has resided in my safe ever since. Same as my Draco and the Beretta CX4. It's a pretty cool pistol for the cool factor, but far from practical..... YMMV
