Is there any reason not to weld the Uzi ejector, as opposed to riveting it? It seems much easier to just tack it on...

The ghost of Uziel Gal will come to your house and bitch-slap you in your sleep?
Pretty much this^^^

Kinda like a screw together AK. Sure you can but Why when it was meant for a rivet.
Heat treat and ease of replacment are probabably the real reasons.

My 2 cents:
If a person has the ability to weld an ejector into place than that same person should be able to rivet it together (as designed) without issue. The components are readily available so I don’t see any reason to deviate.

Richard Hoffman posted a great procedural video on YouTube showing us step-by-step how he did it (I can only assume he did many hundreds of examples this same way with success).

I try and stay open minded so it’s possible that I’m missing some advantage?

I have tested the welding of these in place with a few small tack welds, and it works great. I mig weld, so ruining the temper of the heat treat isn't an issue because the mig doesn't heat up the piece at all.

I have done several this way.

For people saying 'ease of replacement' with the rivet, it's actually much more annoying to chuck it up, and mill away the old rivet, set up the press, and re-press a new rivet.

cutting a weld and rewelding takes literally 3 minutes.

Riveting was the original way of manufacture. No sweat to chisel off a rivet head if the ejector needs to be replaced.
Original aside, I riveted mine because I'm better at riveting than welding.
If it's your Uzi and you're the mechanic/gunsmith then do it the way you want.
