I've owned a bushel basket of snub 38's over the years and like the airweight and scandium J frames best. The steel framed ones and the 357 versions some what defeat the purpose. Had a 940 I loved but hated carrying the weight around in a pocket. Usually switched to a bigger gun and left the 940 at home.

Didn't like the lasers. Much preferred the versions with visible front sights.

I like the Bodyguard style but almost never cocked it.

The 158 +P LSWCHP in 38 is the load I prefer to carry. Win, Rem or Fed, they are all about the same.

I would recommend the new Military and Police model that just came out or a 642/442. Top Gun Supply has some 442's without the internal lock. Smith made a small run of these. I won't own one with a lock.

As an alternative, how about the Kahr MK9?

Ed Lovette has a book published by Paladin Press called 'The Snubby Revolver'. Great read on the subject.

Good luck whatever you choose.

Same here, I don't trust them. I got one in each color (642 and 442) cause they came "lockless".

I didn't think this was going into autos, but I really like my PM9. It's basically a mini-Glock.

Any of the S&W M36 round butt (Chiefs Special) series, your preference for steel, titanium, scandium or aluminum. Pre-lock would be my preference. Hammer or hammerless, as Beemer said, if it has a hammer take a Dremel and lop it off. Great carry gun. ScooterTrash.

S&W J frames, Chief Special, Bodyguard or Centennial including air weights. K frame Model 19 or 66 with a 2.5 inch barrel.

For 38 wheel gun I say hammerless airlight. Fire from a pocket as a CC weapon or backup gun. Small and as simple are a gun gets.

For larger guns or just fun. Judges and New Judges are the hot sellers-45/410/410mag. Or I am looking at a S&W 460ev or 460V-460/454/45.

I would like a hamerless Judge with 410 only in it as a CC gun but it isn't made.

It's real easy to get some DaygloNeon Tester's Paint at Wally World, or a Hobby Shop and paint your front sight Orange and you can paint the outline of the rear sight (fixed rear J frame) neon green. Then coat with clear fingernail polish. All my J frames have this and it really brings out the sights. This is from Teddy Jacobson "Actions by T" in Sugarland,Tx.
I've noticed the stack up on the trigger is different between hammerless Centenials and the hammered versions- even if the hammer is bobbed. Just an observation. Nothing like a J frame in your front pocket for speed and surprise.
What holsters do you fellas like? Me likey Kramer. Old fashioned I guess.

I just got a Rossi 971 2" .357 yesterday evening. I have yet to try it out so whether or not it's a keeper remains to be seen. The only reason I got it was because the local shop had zero Smith 6 shooters and it was the closest to a Smith that I could find. They had a few of the 7 shot Taurus', but I already had a bunch of speedloaders for the 6 shot or I'd have gotten one of those.

For about 5 years I carried a Colt Cobra and was very happy with it. I now have a Kahr PM9 and carry all the time in south Fl without worry of rust and printing under the T shirt. Richard
