What would you own if..

I guess the whole package. I always liked the idea of the light weight beltfed. That's the one I would pick if I could only have it in one configuration.

If we are talking about one weapon to be an all-arounder, for me it would be a Steyr AUG.
It’s decently small for a rifle; with a 16” barrel it’s only a bit longer than my full-size uzi with the stock extended, meaning very compact for CQB situations, yet you get the punch of a .556. For me, the bullpup configuration just feels right; the weight is concentrated behind your firing hand and close to your body so it never gets heavy and always feels stable. Because I don’t have years of experience training with an AK or AR, I don’t have built-in biases with regards to the controls of those platforms; to me, the controls of the AUG are much more intuitive and easier to use. Same with trigger feel, but as with all guns this can be modified. The magazines are indestructible and easy to use. And, with modern AUGs, you have expanded rails and optic options. As much as I love the Uzi, if I had to pick one gun to do it all, it would be the AUG.

I realize this thread is pretty old and only recently brought back to life ... but something that has been bugging me is in the list it has:

But it doesn't say which one of either ... so, HarperJT, if you're still around???
I've had several over the last 20+ years ... which has given me a couple decades to acquire most of the accessories, and one of the 62 Green A2's ... the one thing I wish I'd done was pick up a registered full-auto trigger pack when they were in the 5-6K range ... now I think your lucky if you can find one for $15K ... but that's about the only "accessory" I don't have :silly

The AUG is just sexy in its most pure form!

Thanks, the AUG was designed way ahead of its time! It's fortunate for consumers that the designers made components reverse compatible ... You could buy an early barrel and it would fit on a new production gun, same with the bolts, carriers and most other parts.
One thing hasn't changed, nothing about the AUG has ever been "cheap"!
Several years ago Rat Werkz(sp?) had designed a trigger box using an AR hammer, sear and neutered trigger that worked with the existing linkage, it was $300 common folks had never heard of a trigger that expensive but they sold a few, reports were that they brought a "match trigger" to the bull-pup design since then they have re-designed the sear which uses the original FCG and also takes up the play and must trigger that is common with the design, IIRC it's about $100. I've got a Trigger Tamer and it is a big improvement but I'd still like to try their sear.

own a SA Aug a3...got to shoot a FA aug a few months ago and found it exactly as great as i hoped it would be...very springy feeling, but easy to control....i would pick my SA Aug over a AR any day.....I regret not buying a FA, but by the time i saw one for sale i already had too many expensive guns....now i buy the $6-8k ones as i find anything different to be just as fun to shoot....i enjoy $6k macs as much as $30k M16's

Armslist.com is down all morning...im thinking they are removing bump stocks and maybe FAs too.....
I'm looking forward to finding out (if a M11 is as much fun) as I have an M16 and a HK registered Sear with several hosts in 9mm but also 223 & 7.62x39 ... I had a 91 pistol but even with the short barrel it wasn't controllable.

Which do you like more? I recently bought a HK Sear and just now starting the Form 4 process... and already eyeing a M16 or saving up all the way for a M60.
The M11/Nine is still in jail, hopefully have it in another 3-4 months.
I've been shooting the HK sear more than the M16 ... it may be because I bought MP5SD and MP5K hosts.
If I had to choose between the SD and the K ... I'd probably go with the SD as its quieter; there is just something about shooting really quiet in f/a :heavy

I, also, own over half of the options in the list... and IMO, the M-16 is the easy choice:
#1. Modularity. Yeah, I *can* put my HK sear in a belt-fed (e.g., HK21) but it's
harder & much more expensive than, say, putting a Shrike or FM-9 belt fed upper
on an M16 lower.
#2. LOTs of M16 spares, repair parts, accessories. Vs. the HK system, where I've found
hosts can be hit-or-miss; also, you can in many cases buy from the same supplier as
the U.S. military (for the M16), but HK has made it hard for "civilians" to get their stuff.
#3. Regulatory. HK hosts will typically, at a minimum, require an FFL transfer;
Vs. an M16 upper than I can purchase from Brownells, Gunbroker, etc. w/o
messing with any sort of transfer... and sell just as easily, if it comes to that.
#4. Cost. Definitely pay a bit of a premium for HK stuff (even the 'cloned' stuff). Vs. you can
buy an M4 factory upper straight from Colt for < $1K
#5. And with the other (non-HK) choices on the list, you're generally stuck with
what you have (e.g., SMG, belt-fed, assault rifle). Sure, the Lage stuff is awesome
for the M-11, but it just makes it a much better "MAC"-- still nowhere near an
M16
