Assuming I already had FA guns in all the other calibers other than .223 / 5.56, which one of these should I get -

Ruger AC556

FNC

M-16

In your answer, if you choose the FNC, please justify the $2K additional cost over the Ruger.

If you choose the M-16, please justify the additional $4k over the Ruger, and the additional $2K over the FNC.

Thank you.

FNC M16 AC556

I own both a M16 and a FNC I like both weapons but the FNC does not have many parts out there and the M16 you can change Cal. and there are some belt feed uppers out there for it.

.223 MG's

I own 2 Ruger AC556 carbines and have shot a lot of M16's. I have yet to have a single failure with my AC556's. They are asolutely RELIABLE as long as you have good magazines. They do have several issues though.

1. Barrels are thin and get hot fast.
2. Very magazine picky.
3. Bolts, firing pins, and barrels must be custom fitted, so no easy parts interchange.
4. Limited ability to customize.

There are also several positive things.

1. VERY RELIABLE!!! Will keep shooting no matter how dirty. (Can't say that about an M16.)
2. If ANYTHING ever breaks, you can send it back to Ruger to get it fixed under their LIFETIME WARRENTY.
3. A pristine AC556 will cost HALF what an M16 costs.
4. Very easy and quick to claen.

That is my 2 cents. Hope it helps.

By the way, what part of SC are you in? If you want you can come out to my farm and "test drive" an AC556 if you want.

I still/had own all three guns mentioned and my favorite is the FNC. The FNC is the only gun that worked out of the box that could dump 3 Beta mags in a row without one burp. The AC556 is good for 3 30rd mags and then the hear wave starts. The M16 will be dead after one Beta dump but this may change as I'm slowing switching all the uppers over to the ARES piston kit.

Nobody has parts available for the FNC but I've yet have a need for replacing any part. The M16 is very flexible changing calibers but it works best in 223 and there's always the Shrike %$#*. The Ruger factory service is great but they'll eventually run out of parts like they're out of folders already. The Ceiner .22 kit in the Ruger is a blast and works 100% out of the box.

For an entry level and the most compact .223, I would go with the AC556. If you can only have one full auto, I would go with the M16. But since you already have other full autos, I would go with the FNC as it's the most fun and there are a lot less FNCs registered than the other two guns.

I'm upstate (near Spartanburg) and would love the opportunity. I'd like to find Class III guys to shoot with.

I should have my Max-11 in a month or so, and you can test drive that (if'fn you don't already have one)

Well I just happen to live in Spartanburg!! PM me and we can maybe get together. I already have a MAX-11, but thanks for the offer. If you want to shoot mine some while you are waiting......that can be arranged.:)

Having shot the MG-34 upper conversion for the M16 I have to add that the extra cost is worth it if you don't mind spending yet a few more thousand (5-7 I think) for a mean belt-fed 8mm....

You guys making trouble? lol Sounds like a great day of shooting!! See you guys in Sept.

Jason gave me the "grand tour."

Only thing better than awesome guns to shoot is awesome people to shoot with.

And I guess you could say "yes, in the neighbors minds, we were making trouble."

heh heh

You're welcome!!! I look foreward to the next time we can get together!! Maybe we can set up a "jungle walk" next time!?!?

It's not like I live in the suberbs!!! I own 22 acres of land surrounded by approximately 300 acres of farm/pulpwood land. My neighbors are few and far between. Usually they don't seem to mind some automatic fire. Maybe it was the fact that we blew off so many rounds. Anyway, WHO CARES!!!!!

It was really kind of fun to whip out my papers for Deputy Dawg! I really felt kind of sorry for the guy. You could tell he wanted to squeeze off a few bursts from my MG's. He even said he would like to come out and shoot a little with me when he was off duty!!! I really think if his supervisor hadn't showed up (yes, we actually got TWO Officers to respond to our MASHEENGUNNN FIRE!!) he would have shot at least a few rounds. Oh well, his loss!!!! :jester

The "jungle walk" sounds like the ticket.

I am gonna get a can for my Lage tho.... I'm going to the June 9 suppressor shoot to see if I want to get a 40 can to use with both 40 and 9, or just a dedicated 9 can.

Garandman, I would go with, a Evo can. I can get you a 3-lug for your inbound Lage. You can still use it on your pistols. My dad got a 40 caliber can for a guy He shoots it on his 9mm MP5. He will be at the shoot. So, you can hear it.

Patrick -

Sounds good. I'm saving up my pennies right now, and I'll be by after June 9 to get the can.

We just got in 3 new Evo-9's Will u have your upper by the shoot?

Just found out it'll be another 10 weeks..... :cry

I'm still debating whether to get a 40 can, to shoot both 40 and 9 thru it.

I'm hoping the can shoot will help me make that decision.,.

BTW - ATF says my Form 4 is approved so you should see it soon

I have an FNC and an AC556.

What I like best about the Ruger is the Ciener .22 kit. Its totally reliable with Federal ammo and I've never even fired .223 out of it. With its 13" bbl, its more of a subgun. Ciener kit is available for the M16 as well.

What I like best about the FNC is its heaviness (full stock) for controllability, its looks, and its ability to use AR mags and Chinese 5.56 drums.
