Of course you are correct. I in no way meant to claim a felon could LEGALLY possess a machinegun. Just stating there is no real way for ATF to determine that a trust might be owned BY a felon. I seriously investigated starting a trust in case NFA signatures became an issue in the future in my area. That concern dried up as a new young sheriff was sworn in and looks good to go for the foreseeable future. In any case, there are probably no more NFA items I am interested in collecting so again, the point is moot. And there again, with the elimination of the local LEO signature imminent, it would be more of a family planning thing than something used to acquire NFA items.

In pa if you tell the state police you ned printed for a job they do it on the spot and hand you the cards free of charge.
Tell them it's NFA and it's a no go.
They are instructed not to sign or do anything else to "help" with NFA due to " liability"
So just tell them you need a fed check to work with kids and need to be printed and it's done.
Tell them you want to pay a 200 tax and be ready for a good flat out NO!
GO figure.
PS:
Here in Pa the cards are all the same so just get it done and tell them iy's for anything but a transfer. Also they date and sign the cards here so if you do that get them out to the BATFE in a timely fashion.

As the original poster of this thread, I appreciate all the feedback. I am still undecided which way to go. In my case, I have 3 daughters and a wife who could care less about any of my firearms, let alone ever want to own them. My cleo was great with my first item and signed while I was being fingerprinted at no charge. So, there is no problem doing a individual form 4, but I can't help but think sometime down the road when I have son-in-laws or grandsons, who might have gun interests, that a trust would be nice. I am leaning towards the trust.
Wierd my finger prints cost nothing lol
