Why are old Mac cans occasionally going for $1k+?

My take on two of these cans is that the 45acp one is the same size for the entire length. Not two sizes like normal. That is odd for us collectors. The 9mm can is marked length ways, not around the can like later ones are. Another feature for collectors. I did bid on these but did not win. Those numbers are crazy.

Can someone explain the first stage vs 2nd stage upgrades? Anyone have video of a 45 can upgrades wirh bowers or kgb?

No video, but I had KGB recore an AWC M10A3 suppressor that came with a RPB M10 I bought. I also had them rebuild the base to use octane mounts (I use the .45 cal 3-lug set up). I've not shot it much, but the work was well done and refinish perfect. Here is a pic on the gun... http://www.uzitalk.com/forums/showt...picture-thread&p=788604&highlight=#post788604

Dang I have a nostalgic SWD 380 can that’s in great shape. Not nostalgic to me though.

Never underestimate the stupidity of online auction bidders.

You literally could not give me one. Not worth the transfer tax. A friend of mine had one so I know how they shoot.

Gotta agree with the above sentiments...all the factory Mac cans are late 60s early 70s tech with the eyelets, spirals and wipes...not worth the tax stamp in my non-nostalgic opinion.

I've got original M11/380 and M11/9 cans...cans that came as a "package" when I bought the guns. I had Gemtech rebuild the M11/9 can many years ago when Gemtech would still rebuild them. Unless something has changed...the can builders I spoke to at the time were not putting current tech i.e. "K" baffles or mono-cores into those rebuilds...just pressed baffles and a wipeless endcap. My rebuilt "wipeless" M11/9 can is not as quiet as it was in its original "wiped" configuration. It's not a profound difference...but anyone thinking their rebuilt can will be quieter will be disappointed IMO. This is the reason I didn't proceed with having my M11/380 can rebuilt. Basically what you're getting with a rebuild is the convenience of not having to deal with replacing wipes.

Gemtech built a modern can for the Mac series with modern guts which addressed the attachment shortcomings of the Macs...the Viper. Vipers were built in all 3 calibers...45, 9mm & .380. With Gemtech under new ownership and the Viper line being discontinued...Vipers are on the market at pricing quite a bit lower than when they were in production. Vipers are the best deal going for someone looking for Mac can IMO.

I would have bought it

I bid $450 on 2 of his

Won a 11a swd can for $350

Now that the nutty millionaires got theirs it’s back to earth

I’d gladly pay $400 for a m10/45 on a form 3

That was a fluke. I still want a 2 stage just for kicks, but I'd be at $100. I wouldn't break up a numbers matching set though, that'd be a crime.

it was a Fluke that they went for that high, artificial pricing set by forum idiots, and that have to-have it kinda thing, these were on a Form 3 so even better, not a 2 stamp can from out-a-state that definitely doesn't make them worth it.

Rubens auctions ended on Sat
the MAC M10 45 can sold for $266.....the Powder Spgs M10 9mm can sold for $ 440

$440 was still way too much for that 9mm can, I was tempted to grab another 45 can when it was sub $200 (since it was a tax free Form 3) but it still ended more than I really cared to take flyer on. I just don't see any value on these at anything over $100 + transfer or the equivalent.

Also as MACMAN pointed out the two that were up were oddities also.

And those that new that were willing to pay.

I noted the 45 acp can but not the roll stamp on the other one.
needless to say I did not bid as I already have a two stage 45 acp can.

And that's what makes it a auction two guys wanting it more then the other.
It comes down to who has the most loot to drop.

I just checked the links again. I'm not seeing that the 45ACP can is the same diameter the entire length, it just has a suppressor cover over the second stage. Am I missing something?

maybe the one that sold for big bucks matched the buyers serial of his mac? wouldn't explain why a second guy wanted it that bad tho to drive up the price, maybe shill bidder working against a real bidder.

anyway, I tried to buy a two stage 5 plus years ago as I think they still look the best when paired with a MAC10. I was also told they were near worthless. That is only the case until you show you are interested in one, then the price magically jumps to $500.

What do you mean by a 1/2x28 front cap?

ive asked to replace the front cap with 1/2 x 28 threads vs the standard mac threads...he didnt say he could or couldnt when i asked kgb...i assume its not an issue to do it.

i assume it unthreads (this is my 1st early mac can)
