Room for improvement... These stocks are the ugliest sister to the Thompson and Uzi.

Draw better lines, make it attach. The record books are open if anyone could make a new chapter, with a new design.
I get what you’re saying , but I’m not really trying to make an improved design, I personally like the look of the original RPB unit. I think the Thompson stock is ugly, Uzi stock is even uglier… but the RPB wooden stock is actually kinda cool and has a really unique shape. The old powder springs MAC company had some wooden M10 stocks for the M10LR model but they looked like the end of a canoe paddle, they made an M11 wood stock that was even uglier, long slender thing that looked like it came from a scrap heap. i wouldn’t be surprised if that RPB wood stock shape was the work of max atchisson or John Foote, it was definitely an improvement over the previous designs offered for this platform at that point.

Old catalog
Yep. That is from the back of the manual I believe. The camo RPB manuals have that version of the catalog in the back of them. I have a copy of a color Polaroid of that Cobray marked prototype stock from Wayne Daniel’s photo album. I do not believe they ever made that as a production stock. The leather buttstock holster is a holy grail item for me, I don’t even know if any of those actually exist in the wild either.

Looks like they were messing around with a prototype gas launcher.. that is a smith and Wesson “mighty midget” launcher

Stock is the prototype wood stock that is pictured on the cover of the old RPB catalog.

If you look closely, the top of the prototype stock is basically the same as the production model, it’s only the bottom that is different.

I had a couple of those wooden stocks. They were alright. Much better than the wire stock but that's not saying much as we all know .

My plastic Lage stock beats them both by many miles. The PS folding Uzi stock is also much better and is super compact compared to even the wire stock. Time marches on and things have improved greatly. Not to diss your wooden repros but at this point they are pretty much a retro-cool item.

I still prefer the wood Uzi stock to the metal folding one.

Does that make me retro cool too?
😁

Yeah a “retro cool” item, I personally don’t like the look of any of the modern parts or accessories, especially anything plastic so I have no choice but to be retro-cool.

Wood stock: (1) Traditionally a neck and wrist restraining device used to punish and publicly humiliate those guilty of minor offenses. (2) The site of a 1969 hippie music festival attended by over 750,000,000 people if you believe everyone who said that they were there.

I would recommend a satin finish, not gloss or semi-gloss. And clear wood without knots.

Yeah I’m gonna do another one in walnut with a plain tung oiled finish instead of shellac like this one. More of a military look instead of the sporter stock appearance. I agree and regretted this finish in hindsight. As for the wood… it can get pricey, I just grabbed what was convenient to practice with at the time, this was the first gun stock I’ve ever made so I wasn’t fully confident I’d be able to come up with anything serviceable going into it. I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome, but I do feel some changes need to be made for an improved version for sure. Thanks for your input.

While it isn't authentically original don't be afraid to get two pieces of 3/4" thick wood ("one by") and glue them together to get the 1.5" thickness. It would be much more stable and resistant to warping or cracking.

It's been years since I've done so, but I always used the old school boiled linseed oil for stock and forearm finishing.
