I'd venture to say that many members here have put together ARs.

Myself, I bullt a 10.5" AR SBR last year using a Sabre Defence lower and mostly RRA lower parts, and put a 10.5" Colt upper on it.

Beyond that, In the 70s and early 80s I was a 2111 (Small Arms Repairman) in the Marines and worked on hundreds of M16A1s and dozens of M16A2s.

Noah, I think he was specifically referring to the .45 cal version of the AR. Cavalry Arms in Gilbert, Arizona (just down the road from me) who got raided by the BATFE a month or two ago was making them, but I don't know of anyone else....

Hahn also makes a HEAVY pistol caliber buffer that is too long for rifle caliber cartridges. I have one in my 9mm smg. It was too heavy and caused malfunctions until I ramped the bolt which is suppose to increase cyclic rate 30-50 rpm. It runs fine now. I believe the Hahn buffer would be a must for the added recoil of a 45. Brownells part number is 100-002-513AA. I purchased mine from AMEETEC before Warren had his troubles and sold it.

Slight hijack.

Noah, did you go to school at Aberdeen Playground Maryland? I went there and had the same MOS in the Army only we called it 45B. From the dates you posted I probably went there a couple of years after you and got out at the end of 80, before the adoption of the A2.

I have built an AR 45 and have started finish machining the ar 45 receivers from CNCGunsmithing since khalan dropped the ball a few months ago.

These lowers take std greasegun magazines and are machined from aluminum billet, not plastic. The Olympic upper drops right in place and the grease gun mags dont need to be modified.

Here is a link to the receivers http://www.cncguns.com/projects/AR45lower.html

Olympic Arms has been making a 45acp upper for quite some time. It used a 16 round Uzi mag with a welded on adapter at first. The 16 rounders are unobtanium so it's a 10 round Uzi mag now.

Grease gun mags will work so the several lowers mentioned would add some firepower and reduce the cost of magazines.

Back in the day Dalphon modified Grease gun mags to fit the standard AR lower. They made two versions, one that worked with a magwell adapter, and one had a welded on adapter. They even had a special loader to go with the weld on style. Dalphon went out of business years ago and you don't see the mags for sale often but it solved the firepower issue when the new lowers were not around.

ps. The MGI Modular lower with a M3 Mag Well also works great with the Oly .45 upper with a easy end user modification.

I have an AR45. I purchased the unfinished receiver from Justin @ CNC and had our own panaceabeachbum @ Thompson Machine finish it and it is beautiful. I purchased a complete .45 upper from Oly, any standard lower parts kit will work, and 30 round grease gun mags by the dozen. It is one of my favorite range guns to date. Sorry, no pics my camera is out of its mind at the moment. But I will try to find a pic and post it here.

There have been a lot of problems getting the AR45 platform to take off. I won't go into all of it. Lets just say that there are a number of unhappy customers that had Khalan finish their lowers out of spec and with poor communications to boot. Bottom line is that Justin at cncguns is still producing 10% lowers and thompsonmachine is now finishing them off. They are a hoot to shoot, once you get it running.

The other options have been mentioned, Oly, MGI (which looks sweet), Cav Arms, Bazooka Bros., and a few others.

I got in on Justin's first batch. I thought everything was good, until recently. It seems someone drilled the buffer retainer hole too far to the rear. Now my buffer retainer nipples are being bent as there is a gap b/n the bolt and buffer. I still don't know how to solve this w/o filling and re-drilling. I love the platform, just wish it was to spec...

Tim LaFrance made the first AR-45's back in the 70's for the Government.
I shot one of Tim's full auto M-45 about 2 years ago at the YO machine gun shoot.
Their are pictures in Janes Infantry of The La France AR-45
