I'm on the fence about getting a kit, but i've read all the horror stories on here. From the guys that have had one is it worth the hassle to get one and get it fine tuned to run? Or just buy more 9mm ammo and enjoy my gun that currently runs 100 percent? And if you do like it, what brand should I look out for? Thanks

The "22LR Conversion Kit Tuning Procedures" thread and BWE Youtube video should provide everything you need to get a Subgun Ordnance or a Vector Arms full size, full auto Uzi .22 conversion assembly working properly.
Good luck, whatever you decide to pursue.
MHO, YMMV, etc.

If you're happy with your current gun and it's serving you well, there's certainly something to be said for sticking with what works. But if you're interested in trying something new, a kit could be worth the investment.

Another consideration is that if you are planning to let small stature people (e.g., women and/or older children) shoot your Uzi while using .22LR as a low recoil introduction to full auto fire, the Uzi grip/magwell with grip safety can be difficult for such shooters to readily manage. And depending on the stock, the length of pull might be excessive. As such, a .22LR conversion might not work out very well for such usage.

And for any size shooter who wants to do, extended "buzz gunning", the 30 or so round capacity of the mags might seem to be too limiting.

Good luck, whatever you decide to pursue.
MHO, YMMV, etc.

When our kids were in the 6 to 8 y/o range they (and classmates) used the .22 kit behind the house to kill the Great Pumpkin in fall, then Frosty the Snowman in winter. Every kid today remembers doing this as though it was just yesterday.

Depressing the grip safety was a non-issue as I always draped myself like a cheap suit over kids too small to otherwise hold the gun safely. There is no climb with the .22, but stay very close - and ready - whether helping depress the grip safety or not.

JMO, a .22 kit is a must have.

100%, it’s pretty much all I used the full size for…

Mine worked great with Remington subsonic and a can.

The mini is my favorite.

I absolutely love my subgun ordinance kit. I had to tune it a little but it runs like a sowing machine with Remington golden bullet. Federal bulk box will not work. But all other ammo works great. I have thousands of rounds through it.

I have a vector kit for my full size. Runs very well.
Bought way back when when Victor was still around. I wish I had more mags for it. What is currently out there for new 22LR magazines?

We are in the process of doing another run of Full Auto Full Size 22 LR Uzi Bolts. We just finished a run of the necessary 22 LR Barrels threaded 1/2 28 in two different barrel Lenths.
If you are interested in buying one of our 22LR kits, send us an email at directblowback@gmail.com and we will put you on our Sigh UP List

Any idea if new mags will come out any time soon? I thought I read or maybe talked to someone about Black Dog coming out with another batch including improved feed lips.

I feel they are very fun 1% of the time and a real pain in the butt 99% of the time. One day it'll be the coolest thing in the world and the rest of the year you'll be looking for that perfect spring/ammo/mag/black magic voodoo that gets it to run.

That was my experience with 22 kits for my uzi and my M11/9. I never got either kit to shoot an entire mag without jamming. You have to keep the mags clean and use high velocity 22 ammo. Lage tuned the M11/9 kit -- it made no difference.

Best thing about them is they're easy to get rid of.

I am very pleased with my Uzi 22 conversion. I think the biggest issue with others shooting the Uzi 22 is trigger pull. You must train yourself to do deliberate pulls on the trigger and not to slow squeeze. Once it is tuned you will have a heck of a 22 full auto.

I have a couple of 22 kits for my Macs, which run pretty good, so I haven't felt the need to get one for my Uzi.

Shooting 22LR full auto always makes me grin. While I don't know how much work it would be to get a 22 kit to run in your Uzi, I think it's probably work the effort.

Agreed.
Mine has been gone for a year and no regrets.

I have not had good luck either. I owned:

MAC10 Practical Solutions kit, ran like crap, gave up, sold it

UZI Original Vector kit, ran like crap, gave up, sold it

M16 RTB 22 upper and every 22 gizmo that Bore Buddy sells, runs like crap, haven't sold it yet but the allergens are in the air

I read every bit of information on the internet about getting the UZI and M16 kits to run, and nothing helped.

I don't know why I couldn't get them running.

The little mods that are suggested to get the kits running are usually pretty simple. Like clipping a few coils off a spring. They don't seem like things that could be done poorly, even by a newbie.

So I figure that either

1. I was unlucky and just got some firearm and kit combinations that are just not going to run no matter what.

2. I lack the diagnostic skill to get them running properly.

It might a combination of 1 and 2. Maybe they were hard cases that could be made to run by an expert.

My M16 is a conversion that was done in the early 1980s, maybe the dimensions on it are wonky enough that it needs some expert tweaking to get it to run.
