    Hi Bret,

I've not found the Austen loaders to be a great match for the Tapco Sten mags. The rounds tend to pop out of the feed lips when you depress the lever on the Austen loader.

Well that stinks. What do you use for the Tapco Sten mags?

I finally purchased a 9mm Mag Pump. I've contacted Mag pump about making an adapter for the ZMags. If they refuse, I'm going to try to make a Zmag adapter. If I put together a working prototype, would anyone like to convert it to a 3D model and print it for others?

I'd be in for one if someone could make the ZMag adapter. Interestingly, an adapter picture on Midwayusa's website shows that it's 3D printed.

He is what the Pres of Mag Pump said to my email inquiry about them making an adapter for the Z-Mags.

"Thanks for your email. We are working on this type of loader. It will be whole new unit. Hopefully, some time next year.

I would be interested in to see your phototype. My son has a 3D printer. I could ask him about making your adapter. I also have a Magpump on back order (FOR 1 month) from Optics planet. Don't know when I'll get it.

I have not worked on it as they said they are making it this year.

I'm also putting time into a Glock mag adapter for my Max31K.

I admire your optimism, using “when” rather than “if”.

The best Sten mag loader I have is the one that came with my Sten MKII when I bought it in 1990. It is a box type loader similar to the M3 grease gun magazine loader. Tapco makes a similar loader in plastic for their Sten mags. The most important thing with Sten magazines is the spring. Take apart all your Sten mags and measure the springs. If the spring is less then 12.5 inches long, it is weak and needs to be replaced. A weak Sten mag spring will cause a jam with the last few rounds. This is because the weak spring does not have the tension to feed the last few rounds. Don't even try and stretch those springs either because they have already taken a set. Replacement springs are about $5 each. Last bit of advise, when you shoot new ammo in your Sten always start with just a few rounds in the mag. Weak ammo can cause a runaway in a Sten.

I have been iced in the house and started working on my Shockwave M11/9 mags...tuning the older ones (30% failure rate from factory) and testing the newer generation (0% failure) mags.
That was a LOT of loading.
The OEM loader works okay, but the UpLula really did the trick. Highly recommend the UpLula.
The OEM loader just required a lot more effort as the mags got near capacity...especially the 50 round mags. The UpLula chainsawed right through with less effort.

This! Was trying a new load with a different powder but didn't want to drive to the range for just a few shots, so put a can on and aimed into a sand barrel in the garage. It was interesting even with a partial mag!

PS: I like the tapco loader. I've got at least one in every range bag and they work with several types of magazines.

The first time I shot my Sten I had a 32 round runaway. Luckily the Sten is so easy to control that everything turned out ok. After that I was always careful when trying new ammo. Best loader for M11/9 mags was always the box loader that SWD/Cobray sold. I don't load my mags myself anymore, I have kids for that now.
