Over the years, I’ve talked to quite a
few NFA MG collectors. Seems like most
collectors don’t really have a specific focus
to their collection. However, that being said,
I’ve met guys who have built collections focused on:
Brass Maxims
Colt M16s
WW1
WW2
Brownings
Gangster (Thompsons & BARs)
Vietnam
HK
Macs

You guys ever run across collectors with a focused collection?
What were they?

British issued firearms and MG's and also aircraft mounted rifle caliber MG's that have been adapted for ground use.

And of course there are the few odd guns that are historically significant (MP44, MP40, MP30)

I also knew a guy who collected pre-modern MG technology items:
Gatling guns, Gardner guns, Bira guns, Misc volley-type guns, etc

I have a personal friend that has a ton of transferable’s and some pre-samples.
There’s no rhyme or reason to his collection, other than quantity.

I never met the guy, but one of my younger brothers knew a guy (who died well over ten years ago) who had a number of WII vintage machine guns - American and German subguns and at least one belt fed. Prior to late 2005, Michigan was a Curio & Relics only state so that pretty much limited what one could collect.

As I've grown older, my collecting has been more about transferrables that are unique or low numbers in the registry. But also they are guns that I want to shoot. I want to buy and own toys that none, or few, of my buddies have in their collections.

When I started in the early 90's, I wanted to collect MG's made by various divisions of GM. Then life got in the way.

I collect MACs (lots of em- one for each upper, a few of which I’ve built or am building) and a couple of ATC guns (Firefly & M7A). The only things I’m interested in collecting now are WW1/ WW2 guns- I’ve built a Belgian FN32 aircraft gun in 8mm and an MP34 in 9mm which is a joy to shoot.

I'd like a Hydramatic M16. Haven't seen one for sale in a long, long time. And, IIRC, a lot of them that are around are actually parts welded up receivers.

I was a G M service tech. Had my sights on a Hydramatic M 16, and a Guide Lamp grease gun.

There must be people/actors who specifically collect movie related MGs, but I don't know any
They prob. don't want any of their actor buddies to know, LOL

Is this where the sickness takes you? LOL I thought it was getting bad just wanting one of each mac!

I started with normal MG's but having owned a few thousand its spiraled out of control into buying cannons and tanks mostly now.

At the end of the day its all just trading fodder to bigger and better things.
