1966 German MPi-KM "Transitional" Build
Build by Original AK from a East German 1966 MPi-KM parts kit. The transition was made that year from wooden furniture to plastic and you see both kinds here. The butt plate with no trap, slotted cleaning rod, 800m rear sight with red painted markings, and small sling loops are distinctive to East German guns. An early one like this has lots of milled parts, unlike later guns that largely went to steel castings.
Original AK bends their own flats and adds stamped rather than engraved fire control markings. Serial numbers match. The gun has the typical compliance parts.
What A Country had blued East German MPi-K mags in various grades for quite a while. They are of course fully interchangeable with all other Eastern Block AK mags but are noticeably better finished. The sales listing offered mags that were "new with minor dents" but the mags sent are unissued and perfect. The three-cell blumentarn mag pouch, cleaning kit and correct type 2 wire-cutter bayonet were eBay finds. Gun Parts Corp. has new condition EG slings. They also have them in early gray canvas webbing. Just ask them to pick one for you.
Don't know where Original AK sourced the parts kit, but all parts are in beautiful condition. The wooden and plastic furniture are in truly excellent shape. Original AK tested and targeted the gun prior to shipment. The front sight base does not lean, and the front sight is centered in the aperture.
