Bent trip?

Would someone mind explaining to me the reason why the top of the trip is bent inward? I've been thinking about fabricating a taller one to give me a semi function on my ceiner .22lr conversion kit. I would like to do this as a crawl-walk-run function. I enjoy introducing new people to machine guns, and I would like to have a step to show them that the recoil isn't as bad as it looks when I'm firing it. Thank you in advance for your assistance!

The spec varies on the guns and that bend can be used to adjust it to make more or less contact with the sweep on the bolt. Read post #12 in this thread from this week and perhaps you will understand. Happy Thanksgiving.

Of course it would be on the same page... I guess my question should be: "Has anyone tried such a modification on their Fleming conversation?"
