Has anyone Converted any Sten's to .45ACP? I seem to remeber about 20+ years ago reading an article in Fire Power Magazine of a guy doing a one off conversion of a Sten Mark II to .45ACP using a Grease Gun magazine.

New Barrel in .45ACP
Grease Gun .45ACP Mag
Fabricate a New Mag Housing for Grease Gun Mag
Open Face of Sten Bolt for .45ACP Case
They also had to move Extractor out for the fatter .45ACP Case.

Anybody, have that old article on the conversion?

Would like to know what they did for the Extractor and Mag Housing?

Spec's

9mm vs .45ACP Spec's. Sten MK II 9mm Bolt Face is 10.2mm and 9mm Case is 9.96mm. 10.2mm - 9.96mm = 0.24mm they opened the Bolt for 9mm. So if .45ACP is 12.19mm + 0.24 = 12.43 it needs opened. 12.43mm = 0.4893686".

It is possible. My gunsmith did his Sten in .45acp and 7.62x25 Tokerav. I imagine 40S&W is possible too.

Yes, the Chinese converted it to 7.62 x 25mm during WWII. Yes, 40S&W would maybe be another good option. With 3D Printers cheap today, you could design a new Mag Follower for other Calibers. Any Chance you could talk to your gunsmith and maybe get some photos of his conversion? Extractor is the main problem.

Good article.

45acp conversion - hey did you take this any farther as I would love to give it a go - I am in Europe and have a few MKII's kicking around - so just need help and advice

Tok Conversion Mag Housing is a PPS43 housing and the magazines - the bolt needs to be machined to allow pickup from the double feed mag - this much I know - I have just started looking at doing this myself

For 7.62 if you can modify a mag it simplifies it. I had one made from a mp28 9mm largo mated with the lower half of a ppsh41. Then only need a 20# spring

Later Wiselite started converting Sten mags to 7.62 for their sterling pistols. I bought a couple. Way cheaper than this mag.

Looks good just need the machining for the bolt - any ideas ? As we are permitted fully auto - would need to be fairly accurate I would think

45 ACP

After looking at this again, I think you could just use the Sten Mag with maybe a better follower, a Barrel in 45ACP, with the Bolt Face Openned up and the Extracter, moved out a little. I got some 45ACP Barrel Blank and a Chamber Reamer, so I'll work on this when I get some free time.

The P.A.W.S. ZX-7 and ZX-8 are .45ACP. They are a simplified copy of the Sterling Mk4. The -7 is the full-auto version. He made his own bolts, barrels, etc and used a different single recoil spring. They are nice guns and usually run very well. A while back John Andrewski converted one into the Sterling Mk5 configuration. There's a pistol variant also. It didn't come with sights. You held your index finger along the side pointing at the target and pulled the trigger with your middle finger.

The the dimensions of the Sten, Sterling and P.A.W.S receivers are very close. You will probably need a different recoil spring. Other than that, I don't see why your idea wouldn't work.

You can find all the formulas for bolt weight, barrel length, recoil spring, ammo, ect in Vol 4 of George M. Chinn's book "The Machine Gun." If you put them Excel or another spreadsheet, you can adjust them to get the right combination.
