Does anyone know if Richard's VBS can be used with a MAX 31? I know I can email him but I don't want to wait until Monday for an answer.

It seems as if I've heard it won't work with the MAX 31 but I don't know why.

Yes they work in both Mk1 and Mk2 Max-31's, they are just basically buffers that regulate bolt rear-ward movement.

Is it possible this addition could have an adverse affect on the upper?

I saved the post I made above from when I asked Lage.

I'll assume the risk of adding too many VBS is either the bolt won't lock back, or won't catch the sear when you let off the trigger.

That makes sense. I don't think the MAX 31 is made to use with the VBS.

Correct. You can short-stroke it somewhat, but too much and you may experience runaways.

I think Richard sells a speed bolt for the 31.

I'm sure I ordered it with the speed bolt. It supposedly runs 900 to 1000 RPM. I'll check with them Monday to make sure. I certainly don't want to destroy a $900 upper for an extra 100 RPM or so. Thanks.

You're not going to hurt it. It's built better than the lower it's attached to ;)

You guys can check with Richard but I have used two VBS in my Max-31 Mk2 without issue. Why have a "Speed Bolt" and VBS that do about the same thing...really don't know. A different option is what I assume...but I can assure you the VBS works fine in the -31. If it runs away I would suggest hotter ammo.

If you are talking about the first Gen -31... No issues with that either. One is made of steel and the other Alum the design-spec's are the same. There were some improvements on the Mk2 but they are basically very similar as far as functionality.

Actually....I stand corrected. After a quick test my -31Mk1 with the latest bolt design. It worked with both one and two VBS blocks. With the older bolt it only worked with one VBS block. Sorry if I lead anyone down the wrong path. I always use the newer bolt because it seems a bit more reliable.
