I'll weld the yoke to one of the plates tomorow. The plates have a 5/8" hole in the middle of them that I'll insert a grade 8 bolt and lock nut. I'll tighten it just enough to be able to rotate the 2 plates and not be too loose or too tight. Next will be the leg mounts which I will design tonite after I finish my beer.

That's some of the best welding I've ever seen!

What are you going to use for the wheels for the carriage?

He's not building a carriage this time. It will sit on a tripod with I assume a T&E of some sort.

LOL!!

Chuck is correct, tripod of the design used in the latter 1880's. Oak or Walnut with the flat base with the spike in the middle for the bottom plates. No T and E though. There will be a handle mounted to the left side support for the T and E job.

Jim,

Not being a welder, what is this T&E you guys speak of?

T&A I understand..

T&E isnt a welding term, it stands for traverse and elevation. it controls the up down and side to side movement of the gun.

Here are the frames for the leg supports.PS 226.jpg

This is roughly where they will go when welded on. There will be a small opening for the insertion of the 5/8" grade 8 bolt from the bottom.PS 227.jpg

I have cut out the bottom side of the leg supports here. This will enable me to hinge the oak legs and fold them up when transporting them and folding them out when setting the gun up. They will have a hinge pin and a lock pin too.PS 228.jpg

Here I have the yoke welded onto the top 3/8" swivel plate. I have started sanding it getting it ready for the paint room.

Don't forget to put the seat lid back up when you're done in the "paint room", so the wifey doesn't get mad.

j/k

Nice work Jim!
